Code of Standard Practice for Composite Steel Joists
- Standard Specifications and Code of Standard Practice ANSI certified through consensus approval
- Introduction of new SJI approved composite steel joists, CJ-Series, May 10, 2006 to be in accordance with only the LRFD design methodology at present
- Weight Tables and Bridging Tables are provided for Normal Weight Concrete (NWC) and Light Weight Concrete (LWC)
- Weight Tables and Bridging Tables have a span range from 20 to 120 ft., a joist depth from 10 to 96 inches, and a Total Safe Factored Uniformly Distributed Joist Load that ranges from 300 to 4500 plf.
- Composite Steel Joist Catalog contains
- Two detailed Design Examples that demonstrate the use of the Weight Tables and Bridging Tables for the Specifying Professional
- SJI Composite Joist Floor Design Parameters Checklist for the preliminary sizing of CJ-Series joists
- Two (2) Appendices covering Fire Resistance Ratings with Composite Steel Joists and OSHA Safety Standards for Steel Erection

| 43rd Edition Standard Specifications and Load and Weight Tables for Steel Joists and Joist Girders |
|
The 43rd Edition provides a more practical approach to better define the actual use of the products in the catalog. All of these changes are aimed at making SJI products safer, simpler to use and more economical. This includes:
- ANSI certified through consensus approval
- Elimination of 8K1 joists and round rod bridging
- Introduction of a new K-factor and slenderness chart for K-Series
- Updates to the K-factor and slenderness chart for LH-Series
- Introduction of a new Q factor for all crimped angles with compressive forces
- Addition of a Joist Girder top chord transverse bending check and a node shear check
- Extension of the DLH-Series to 120 inches deep and 240 feet long
- Elimination of the term “Clearspan” in LH-/DLH-Series to agree with K-Series
- All of the bridging requirements were clarified or corrected
The hard copy includes Errata No. 1 and No. 2. You may also download Errata No. 1 and No. 2 for free. Click here.

| TECHNICAL DIGEST No 3 - STRUCTURAL DESIGN OF STEEL JOIST ROOFS TO RESIST PONDING LOADS (June 2007) |
|
This 44-page Digest outlines procedures for the selection of steel joists that are required to meet the stability requirements resulting from the accumulation of water on a roof system, i.e., ponding. This digest provides background information and discussion concerning the effects of ponding, and makes use of the SJI Load Tables as an aid in assisting designers to comply with the SJI Standard Specifications. The benefits of camber and pitch of joists in reducing the effects of ponding are discussed and a technique that accounts for these benefits is shown.
