Project Description

Steel Joists in Bloomfield High School ProjectNew library-media center for Bloomfield High School in Bloomfield Connecticut. The architect and school system requested an open, inviting space to create an exciting learning environment in the library-media center.

What Makes This Project Interesting

The exposed and highlighted steel roof joists and structural steel. CANAM was the only joist manufacturer that would manufacturer LH series joist with round web members preferred by the architect for a clean appearance. The north facing full height glass wall looking out on to the courtyard with up-turned roof & the use of wood planking in the ceiling enhance the space. 

Advantages Of The Chosen Structural System

The architect wanted an economical, open roof framing system for the media center that would let in a maxiumum amount of light from the glass wall and create a very open, exposed environment.

Additions and renovations to an existing high school including the library-media center, an auditorium stage addition, two entrance additions and extensive interior modifications.
