June 16 – Updated Steel Joist Applications and Capabilities for Floor Systems

SKU: WebinarJune2021. Category: .

Product Description

This webinar will help the attendee find the most appropriate steel floor joist for various spans, loadings and occupancies including a demonstration of the new Floor Bay Analysis Tool from Steel Joist Institute (SJI). SJI’s expanded LH-Series load tables will be shown to be applicable for floor applications via example designs. Composite and non-composite applications of floor joists will be discussed with general guidelines given so that an engineer can arrive at the best product type for any floor application. The attendee will be shown how to use the SJI load tables in conjunction with standard SJI camber for evaluating deflection issues. Various types of joist seats will be discussed along with potential applications where each type of seat may be particularly advantageous. Common structural software, which has recently included composite joists and the expanded LH-Series load tables, will be highlighted.

This in-depth webinar is provided by the Steel Joist Institute (SJI) in partnership with the Steel Deck Institute. Participants can earn 1.5 PDHs.

Learning Objectives

  • An engineer will be able to readily pick the best steel joist product type for any span and loading and how to display this product on structural drawings.
  • An engineer will know how to address vibrational issues in the design of steel joists in floor applications.
  • An engineer will understand the capabilities and limitations of current structural software related to floor joists.
  • An engineer will know how to apply beneficial standard SJI camber when calculating deflections on steel joists.
