Several codes, standards and building rating systems now require or encourage the development of a Whole Building Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for new building designs. This session will investigate how these assessments are achieved, including identification of some of the potential pitfalls in the process. Included in the discussion will be the definitions of LCA and whole building LCA (WBLCA, sources of data, the relationship between LCAs and environmental product declarations (EPDs), as well as commercially-available software to conduct WBLCAs.

Structural engineers, fabricators, detailers and connection design firms who are responsible for steel joist and Joist Girder building designs and their connections. Individuals who are responsible for the design of Joist Girder moment frames that are subjected to gravity and lateral loading as well as those responsible for auditing, reviewing or approving such designs will benefit from this course. Those with very little design experience as well as those with many years of experience will find the course beneficial.
Professional Development Hours
Each participant will earn 1.5 PDHs and receive a certificate of completion from SJI.
