Description

Steel joist and deck can provide additional strength and serviceability to your structure. Several steel industry associations, including the Steel Joist Institute and the Steel Deck Institute, are currently sponsoring research using system reliability concepts to develop more rational and better-performing joist and deck system design methods that will not add to the complexity of joist and deck design for consulting engineers and architects but will yield safer and more economical designs. This webinar will provide a simple and understandable methodology for designers to take advantage of imbedded system reliability.

This webinar is provided by the Steel Joist Institute in partnership with the Steel Deck Institute. Participants can earn 1.5 PDHs.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the basis for reliability-based design using LRFD.
  • Understand the current application of element reliability versus system reliability.
  • Learn the variables that are considered in determining structural system reliability.
  • Be able to apply system reliability factors to the design of structural systems, specifically joist and deck.
