Diaphragms are the key structural elements used to transfer horizontal lateral forces to the vertical lateral resisting systems. This webinar will provide tools to help you understand diaphragm stiffness and how that stiffness relates to the distribution and transfer of those forces to the lateral resisting system. The load path of the diaphragm forces through chords, collectors, and the importance of the diaphragm connections to those elements will be reviewed. Finally, we will introduce online design tools that will help simplify the diaphragm design process.
This webinar is provided by the Steel Joist Institute in partnership with the Steel Deck Institute (SDI). Participants can earn 1.5 PDHs.

Samuel Richard is a Professional Engineer with 17 years of experience at Canam Group, focused on structural steel design and manufacturing. His background includes extensive work on design-build projects and the development of diverse structural steel products. He currently serves as a technical representative for Canam Group on various industry and standard committees.
