Description
This Floor Bay Analysis Tool has been developed by the Steel Joist Institute to assist the structural engineer of record with selecting optimal bay sizes and framing options. The tool provides several input options allowing for customization based on project criteria and designer preference as well as owner and code requirements.
The tool also includes the ability to evaluate floor vibration behavior for walking excitations. Standard joist seats may be used as well as the more beneficial bolted flush-framed joist end connections. If the user is not satisfied with the vibration results, the user can easily modify the original bay and reevaluate. Recommendations are presented to obtain better performance. The vibration analysis is based on AISC/SJI Design Guide 40.
The latest version, V4.0, includes a check for floor natural frequency vibration.
