For many engineers, steel deck diaphragm design begins and ends with published tables or software output. While these tools provide diaphragm strengths, they often mask the fundamental mechanics that determine how a diaphragm actually behaves.
This webinar takes a practical look inside both roof and floor diaphragms to explain the factors that govern strength and stiffness. Using concepts familiar from statics and strength of materials, the session breaks down the mechanics behind bare steel deck and concrete-filled diaphragms into straightforward, easy-to-understand principles. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how diaphragm properties are developed and how those principles can be used to evaluate, specify, and design diaphragm systems more effectively.
This webinar is provided by the Steel Joist Institute in partnership with the Steel Deck Institute. Participants can earn 1.5 PDHs.
