SJI Roof Bay Analysis: Ponding and Beyond

This webinar provides an in-depth look at advanced roof ponding evaluation for steel framing systems. Participants will review the key roof ponding stability requirements of ASCE/SEI 7-22 and gain clarity on when detailed ponding analysis is required in practice. The session will demonstrate how to use the SJI Roof Bay Analysis Tool to evaluate simple roof bays and then move into more advanced applications, including load-over-load joist systems and bays subjected to snow drift loading. Emphasis will be placed on understanding structural behavior, interpreting analysis results, and recognizing conditions that may lead to ponding instability. Through practical examples and step-by-step demonstrations, attendees will build confidence in applying the tool to real-world steel roof systems beyond routine design cases.

Learning Objectives:

  • Summarize the main roof ponding requirements outlined in ASCE/SEI 7-22.
  • Evaluate the ponding stability of simple roof systems using the SJI Roof Bay Analysis Tool.
  • Assess roof bays with load-over-load joist using the SJI Roof Bay Analysis Tool.
  • Analyze roof bays with snow drift loading using the SJI Roof Bay Analysis Tool.
