Technical Manager for the Steel Joist Institute + Steel Deck Institute
Position: Technical Manager
Reports to: Managing Director
Job Status: Exempt
Job Summary
The Technical Manager will split time between Steel Deck Institute and Steel Joist Institute, working with the Managing Director, the SDI Technical Director, and the SJI Consulting Engineer to advance the use of steel deck and steel joists in the AEC marketplace. This to include the maintenance and updating as required of all technical manuals, technical digests, standards, tech notes, white papers, etc. for the designer and ultimate users of the products; champion and oversee research projects at universities and engineering firms; participate in marketing activities; create educational opportunities in the AEC world and assist in the implementation of these learning activities; become or stay involved in committee work including AISC, ASCE, AWS, and others; initiate creating and updating useful engineering tools on SDI and SJI websites; assist in planning the way forward with AI for both organizations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural or Architectural Engineering with preference for structural emphasis, or equivalent industry experience.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience. Work as a consulting structural engineer helpful.
- Professional licensure preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to drive initiatives independently.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret drawings, specifications, and technical procedures.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to speak effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
- PC skills to include Microsoft Software Suite & BlueBeam.
- Location requirement – remote is acceptable. Potentially be in the main office, in Florence SC, 4-6 times per year.
- Travel requirement would be in the 25-35% range.
Compensation:
- Salary: $150,000 +
- Medical and Retirement plans included.
