This project is a perfect example of how steel joists can provide both cost savings and improved erection time when compared to other forms of construction. The 138LHSP gable joists measuring 11′-6″ deep and over 66 feet long for the gymnasium/community room were delivered to the job site in one piece.

The long span joists were a cost savings over the originally specified light gage system and still allowed for the gable geometry the church desired. The reduced number of main members and use of X bridging allowed for faster erection. At the gymnasium the joists provide support for the basketball backboards and drop ceiling. In the sanctuary the joists work in conjunction with the structural steel system to form the ceiling with a large overhead dome.
