Joist and Joist Girder Reinforcement Tool

This design tool has been developed by the Steel Joist Institute to assist the SER and the steel fabricator with the complex task of reinforcing open web steel joists and Joist Girders in order to increase their strength to accommodate added loads for which they were not originally designed. Seventeen individual spreadsheets are available for reinforcing schemes.

The Steel Joist Institute’s third edition of Technical Digest 12 gives the reader information regarding the application and usage of steel joists and joist girders. Technical Digest 12 covers the evaluation of existing steel joists and joist girders to carry additional loads not accounted for in their original design. Technical Digest 12 also addresses situations where the configuration and/or the original geometry of the steel joists or joist girders need to be modified in the field.
