The expansion of the school included a new cafeteria which was framed utilizing longer span joists. The longer joists provided a cost-effective solution to create the open space for the cafeteria and also allowed for the ductwork to pass through the web system of the joist. The use of joists in this building allowed the design team the flexibility to create an addition that retains the look and feel of the original.
